I have deleted all the old posts for Summer Sucks as the actual project no longer mirrors what I did back in the beginning of this year.

I will repost those old images for archival purposes in the near future. For now I don’t want to confuse players, as I feel I’d be dishonest if I kept them around when progress no longer focuses around those screenshots.

I have learned not to share too much anymore. However you will get to see what the game currently looks like when I am ready to show more.

Thank you for being patient with me!

acuamera asked: In the same vein as that last question, is it possible for the health meter to 'count down' like Mother 2? I realize that might be difficult to replicate as a mechanic, maybe a similar thing like poisoning (?), but it seems like something that added a bit of flavor.

As much as I would love to put that in actually, I don’t think that will make an appearance as well. I don’t want to make this too Earthbound-like as I’m willing to make it it’s own thing as well and have it’s own identity.

Somethings will be similar and somethings will have it’s own take~ There will be more to show off here when it’s ready.

dragonafter asked: Mother 3/Earthbound 3 had mechanic of attacking with beat of the enemys music. Will this be in this game? (sorry for my bad english)

There won’t be any heartbeat mechanics like there was in Mother 3. I plan to keep things relatively simple, like how things could have worked in Earthbound.

I guess you could say it’s more akin to Cognitive Dissonance, the Earthbound fangame as it was made in the exact same engine I’m using for Summer Sucks.

JUNE UPDATES

IT’S JUNE

The jam I’m in isn’t quite over yet but when it is you can probably expect that I’ll be coming back here. So, why am I making an update? Well, there’s been a few decisions I had to make in terms for Summer Sucks.

I had a very good long hard thought about it as well. I’ve decided that I am going to change engines for the game, use one that I’ve had far more experience in rather than using an engine for more technical games. Those who know me would know that engine I’m talking about is 2K3. So I’m moving onto 2k3 from MV. For some this won’t matter much, but others might be a bit curious to why I’ve decided to do that.

First of all, Summer Sucks isn’t a game that’s going to require intensive amounts of work in javascript, the biggest slowdown MV had for me was stopping my progress and finding a specific type of plugin that would remedy a problem that 2K3 had a hardwired fix in already, and hardly use the plugin to it’s full potential.

My other reason being the game would be better presented running in something I’ve got more than 5 years worth of experience in, Summer Sucks being a very close project of mine I’d only be happy if I know I’m doing all I can do.

This is not to say MV is bad, MV is a good engine I’d love to do more experiments in but Summer Sucks is not an experiment, I know exactly what I should be doing with Summer Sucks and MV with it’s many potentials, 2K3 I’d be doing better executing what I’ve had in mind for the game.

TL;DR: The game might look different from here on out, changes in development happen all the time and I want what is best. Things are A-OKAY.

Anyway, that’s all for now. I’ll keep everyone updated on progress when it is time to dive back in!

Soundcloud is having a problem connecting the OST progress link in my descriptions so I’m going post this song in protest to Soundcloud’s 404 issues and hopefully give you a more direct link with that.

You can check out Summer Suck’s OST (or at least the tracks I’ve definitively made for it so far) in my soundcloud!

Ashes Ashes
Summer Sucks

To be honest a track I’m most proud of, admittedly being not so experienced in music.

And by that I mean I bang on the keyboard and hope what I am doing sounds good.

Still lots to do with the other sprites but I’m nearly done with the part 1 chipsets!
